What is Contemporary Art?
In this series of lesson plans students examine the meaning of contemporary art. Students are asked to interact with and create contemporary art through the use of a variety of media. Within the series of lessons students are asked to research, create, and discuss topics related to contemporary art. Exploring and Drawing with Light:

Identify a Positive Self and Negative Surround Influences: In this lesson students get a sense of identity by identifying unique characteristics that build their makeup as a human being. Students create a portrait cut from construction paper. On this portrait students use identifiers such as cut out images and text to express who they are. Secondly the lesson allows students to identify who they are not by asking students to consider positive and negative rolls of aspects of their culture. Link to Lesson Prompt. Digital Camera/ Visual Culture:
In this series of art related lessons students use the digital camera to identify important aspects within their personal visual cultures. Many contemporary artists focus on ordinary everyday encounters. In particular Mark Lewis sets up his camera and records a specific moments in time where life unfolds. Students are asked to transform, document and discuss the visual imagery that they collect during this series of lesson plans. Lesson Guide Link. |
